Shoulder Pain

Chicago Shoulder Pain

Affecting those with rotator cuff syndrome, tendonitis or bursitis, shoulder pain affects everyone at some point in life.  It is important to first find the cause, and our Chicago pain management clinic has the tools and diagnostics to make the right clinical decisions as it relates to your specific problems.

1. Rotator Cuff Syndrome

These injuries can be due to lifting, overhead activities or repetitive motions.  This specific injury involves insult to 1 or more out of the four muscular groups of the rotator cuff.  More than likely injury occurs, and the muscle may tear, which can be easily seen with MRI.   Treatment options include trigger point injections, cortisone shots under ultrasound guidance, physical therapy and massage therapy.  In some cases, acupuncture is used for pain control in place of medications.

2. Tendonitis

Unlike a tear, tendonitis occurs when the tendon, which attaches muscle to bone become inflamed.  In most cases, tendonitis is a precursor to a tear, and must be treated immediately.  Usually, modalities such as electrical muscle stimulation combined with therapeutic ultrasound over the affected area, acupuncture and massage will take care of the problem in 4-6 weeks.

3. AC Separations and Dislocations

With comprehensive evaluations and state-of-the-art diagnostics, separations and dislocations are easily treated at our Chicago pain management clinic.  We begin with a thorough evaluation testing provocatively which boney separation is expected, followed by confirmation with digital x-rays, and finally a tailored treatment plan consisting of strapping and taping, physical therapy, medicine (as necessary), topical creams and home exercises.

There are a variety of treatment solutions available.
